Directional coupler is a passive port reciprocal four-port device, one of which is isolated from the input port.Ideally, all four ports are perfectly matched and the circuit is loss-free.Directional couplers can be implemented in a variety of ways, such as microstrip lines, strip lines, coaxial and waveguides, etc. They are used to sample the input and output signals (this application is called a reflectometer, which is an important part of a network analyzer.
